If you prefer, you can just visit our online proof albums at CoachBetty.dotphoto.com -- there is no requirement that you order prints from dotphoto, we'll send them to you if you want. Our mission as photographers for the band is multifold. Most importantly, we capture images that the band and university can use in marketing materials. That's a primary objective. Secondly, we record the history of the band so that twenty or thirty years from now your kids can look and see what a silly hair style you wore. Then, we capture images that you can use for whatever purpose you'd like.Since our main objective is marketing photography -- most of these images are at an aspect ratio of 1:1.25 (8x10 shape) and are at 300dpi print quality. There are some photos here at a 1:1.5 aspect that will make an excellent 4x6. If you want a 4x6 of an 8x10 image then you need to check the "do not crop" box or have us resize the image for you. A 4x6 and an 8x10 are not the same shape! So here's what we're trying to do. We're going to try to place photos in several ways so that you can get the best possible results from our images. We want you to be able to email them to mom and dad, to make prints for your friends, to use them on your web page, or to just have fun looking. The problem is that these images are HUGE files and to do each of those things you sort of need a different file size for each. So....We use two professional labs to print for us. We use DotPhoto.com for "normal" things like a 4x6 or a plain everyday 8x10. We use MPix.com for special things like archival black and white, unusual print sizes like 5x15 or 30x30, and special papers like metallic. MPix gives us a better discount than they will give you -- if you want something special you can ask us and we'll show you all the options. We also have an account with a professional lab in Kansas that will make just about anything we want (including books) but they aren't cheap. Want one of those big 16x20 band prints? They're less than $20 unframed.WalMart (and other such places) won't print our photos if they're paying attention. They have rules about professional images and we are considered "professional". We can get quick prints done at Walgreens near Carolina Forest so just ask us if you want a 4x6, wallets, or 8x10 sent there for you to pick up. This is the best way to go if you want just one or two prints and they are very reasonable...We can't put full resolution images on the web without having to pay for hosting and it gets really expensive considering that it's not uncommon for one of our images to be 15MB or more -- DotPhoto.com will let you download a hi resolution image for a small fee if you want to go that route. If you just ask us, we'll send you the hi res and will format it to whatever print (or web) size you need. Just don't ask for "everything I might be in...", that could be a lot (100s) of pictures and would take us a whole day to find.Getting prints from a real photo printer and not from a bubble is just worth the cost. In fact, it's generally cheaper to have a professional make your print than to pay for photo paper and ink. It's a bit like the way there is a difference between a Bundy clarinet and a Buffet R13, they're both clarinets but...Remember that our photography is an art just like your music, we're doing this for other people and making them pay us. You'd not want us to take a CD of you playing, alter it so that it sounds bad, and then put it on the web with your name on it; please don't alter our images in a way that will reflect poorly on our artistic ability. If you need something special feel free to ask. It's very likely that we can get a shot of you however you'd like as long as we know you want one. "Hey Betty, I could really use a headshot for my facebook." will usually result in a really nice headshot for your facebook. The professional side of our business is leaning toward fashion, glamour, and fine art. We're not much on journalistic style. We take about 300 pictures per event. It's very likely that we have a picture of you -- if we don't, we will before the end of season. Don't be embarrassed to ask us if you want something done, that's what we're out here for. |
